The Palladian villas around Asolo
Between Asolo and the Venetian plain, the landscape is marked by the villas built for the nobility of the Republic of Venice. They were not only residences of prestige: they joined the manor house to the farming life of the land around it.
Andrea Palladio turned this building type into one of the most recognisable architectural languages of the Veneto. The system “City of Vicenza and the Palladian Villas of the Veneto” is today on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Villa Barbaro and Villa Emo
Among the destinations that sit most naturally within a stay in Asolo are Villa Barbaro at Maser and Villa Emo at Fanzolo di Vedelago. Both make legible the relationship between architecture, countryside and display that defines the sixteenth-century Venetian villa.
The visit gains further meaning when it begins at Villa Cipriani: the house in Asolo also has its origins in the Palladian age, even if it later passed through other transformations and styles.
